Can you imagine what it must be like for David and Marco right about now? I cannot. They started this thing called Tumblr because it’s something they wanted to use. They watched us all sign up. They watched it grow and grow and discovered people using it in ways they never imagined. They saw people loving this thing. They became internet rock stars. And eventually, they decided Tumblr would be better served with some help. They went from two employees to 10.
And now we’re searching for two more people. This is an exciting time to be part of the Tumblr Crew, obviously, but I hope everyone who uses Tumblr even sporadically can appreciate what we’re all a part of right here, right now in this special community.
I can’t put into words what the opportunity given to me by Tumblr means. It’s my dream job. It’s everything I wanted. It comes with New York City as a bonus. This is all to say: Working here is awesome, and if you think you’re a good fit for our current openings, you need to go for it.
A brief note about New York City… I want to put it to you like this: NYC is one of the benefits of working at Tumblr. I’ve spent all my life in Florida, with all the space and calm and beautiful weather one could wish for. Yet I’ve fallen in love with this place. New York City is truly amazing and indescribable, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else right now. I’d ask anyone lamenting the idea of relocating to NYC to reframe their thinking. It’s not that you have to live here. You get to.
I’ll end now with how I answered “What is an average day like at the Tumblr office?” in a recent interview:
The Tumblr office is a really special place, so the average day isn’t average at all. In addition to the herd of incredibly cute little puppies that clumsily gallop through the office every hour, I get to work with the greatest collective of individuals ever gathered into one room. What makes Tumblr great, from both a user perspective and a staff perspective, is the people who make it happen. Seriously.
Plus, every day for lunch we ride ponies to a secret place in Midtown that serves the best desserts ever concocted and that somehow contain negative calories.
