I know that there are complex formulas at play when news organizations decide to call a state for a candidate less than an hour after the polls close, but this immediately gives me several thoughts.

  • It still irks the shit out of me to declare a winner with only 5% of the votes counted.

  • “Winning” a state is relatively meaningless for one of the candidates at this point. It’s all about the delegates, which means it’s the margin of the win that matters — no matter what the big check next to somebody’s name looks like.

  • Our electoral system kinda sorta makes no damn sense at all.
