I’ll be the very first to admit, I’ve done some really stupid things with the Tumblr API over the last several months. Stuff so stupid that I get hate-mail for it and, for all I know, stuff that may make me a source of persistent annoyance to the powers that be.

Granted, I’ve started some projects that I’d categorize as semi-useful. Somebody once requested a way to save (or “favorite”) Tumblr posts to some kind of list associated with their account, and tumpop.com was born a couple days later. A lot more could be done there, but my inspiration has faded for the moment.

There’s also my little Image Parser and Audio Parser, which even I’ll admit are kinda fun — though not very original.

What I’m really excited about right now is whatever is going to happen over at tumblrists.com (no point in linking as it’s locked away for the moment). This isn’t the Ning Network thing, which is nice enough but will certainly transition into something else as eventually the plural and singular tumblrist.com will be the same site.

As you might have guessed from the screenshot above, this thing might very well primarily act as a directory of sorts — a directory of tumblelogs and of the people behind them — with no fixed taxonomy other than whatever it is that you’d use to describe yourself and what you tumble about. But who knows for sure? That’s what’s exciting.
